Voices of the Future: ASEAN Youth in AI

The ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 Youth Caucus, titled “Navigating AI Frontiers: The Quest for Innovation & Ethical Technology,” is a satellite event organised by KiniEvents & MIDP in conjunction with Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN, and in collaboration with Google, MyDIGITAL Corporation, and the National AI Office.

Designed to serve as a dynamic platform for creative ideas, critical discourse, and constructive solutions on pressing global issues, this exclusive event will bring together youth representatives from all ASEAN member states to shape the future of AI in the region.

About the Event

Overview

A high-level summit and policy forum that invites ASEAN youth to shape ethical and inclusive AI development through dialogue, discourse, and collaborative action.

Theme

AI is changing everything, but can innovation grow without losing sight of ethics, fairness, and impact? As ASEAN moves forward with AI, how do we make sure it works for everyone, not just a few?

Target Participant

ASEAN Youth leaders, changemakers, or public policy enthusiasts aged between 18 to 40 years old.

Best Country Position Winner: PHILIPPINES

Congratulations to Clint West Autida and Raoul Manuel.

The Philippine team addressed the rise of AI generated deepfakes used to harass women and children online. Their AI Para sa Masa initiative combines policy, requiring platforms to report and remove harmful content, with AI literacy campaigns that educate and empower communities. The strategy promotes responsible AI that respects consent and urges ASEAN to act against digital gender based violence.

Problem

The Philippines has been a hotspot of online violence against women and children, and this is accelerated by the use of generative AI to produce non-consensual deepfakes to harass these already vulnerable groups.

Solution

AI Para sa Masa (“AI for the People”), a dual strategy with a policy component (mandating platforms to respond to harmful deepfakes) and an initiative component (an inclusive, nationwide AI Literacy Drive).

Mechanism

Policy:
Platforms shall adopt a user-friendly report mechanism where a user can report content with AI-generated deepfakes featuring their image or likeness without their consent. The platform must immediately check the reported content with feedback from a third-party team composed of independent organizations. Platforms can harness AI tools to detect deepfakes and scout for similar content.

Initiative:
1. Mainstreaming AI education into media and digital literacy curricula
2. Producing infographics, short films, and explainer videos about the ethical risks of AI, particularly around deepfakes
3. Training grassroots youth leaders and women’s groups to recognize, report, and respond to AI-generated online abuse.

Impact

This dual strategy pushes for responsible AI that respects consent and dignity. Through this, the Philippine team urges ASEAN to take collective action against digital gender-based violence—before it becomes normalized.
